In a hearing conducted by the Subcommittee on Resolution of Both Houses No. 6 (RBH6) on Monday, February 5, 2024, Senate President Juan Miguel "Migz" F. Zubiri reaffirmed the Senate's commitment to a careful examination of proposed amendments to the 1987 Constitution. The focus of RBH6 is on revisiting specific economic provisions outlined in Articles XII, XIV, and XVI.

Zubiri addressed the public's concerns, stating that the Senate is dedicated to heeding the calls from various sectors regarding constitutional amendments. However, he emphasized that the Senate will not be pressured by deadlines, underscoring the need for thorough research and analysis in proposing changes to the Constitution.

During the hearing, Zubiri urged his colleagues to rise above external pressures and concentrate on the task at hand. He emphasized the importance of the Senate as an institution acting in the best interest of the entire nation, rather than prioritizing individual localities.

"Let us not listen to the noise. Let us be above the fray. The Senate as an institution should be statesmen and women that will always look at the best possible outcome for our country, not for our localities, but for our country. Therefore, let us filter out the noise and focus on the work at hand," Zubiri stated.

RBH6 specifically targets amendments to economic provisions, aiming to address relevant concerns and adapt to the changing landscape. Zubiri's remarks highlight the Senate's commitment to a thorough and thoughtful process, reinforcing the importance of taking the necessary time for comprehensive study before proposing any constitutional changes.
