In a recent Senate Committee hearing on August 5, Senator Christopher "Bong" Go made a passionate appeal to the Philippine National Police (PNP) to remain apolitical and uphold the rights of Filipinos. He emphasized the importance of conducting operations within the legal bounds and avoiding any unnecessary escalation.

Senator Go, the Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs, addressed the PNP following their controversial raid at the Kingdom of Jesus Christ Compound in Davao City on June 10, 2024. He highlighted the need for the police to use only reasonable force and avoid causing undue panic, especially among children and students.

The senator reminded the PNP that their operational manual mandates the use of force only as a last resort, specifically in cases where suspects are armed or pose an immediate threat. Reports had surfaced about a SWAT team in full combat gear surrounding the compound, which, according to Go, caused unnecessary distress among the local community.

Expressing his continued support for uniformed personnel, Senator Go recalled the Duterte Administration's efforts to increase police salaries and his own commitment to fighting for their welfare. He underscored that while he supports the police, operations must be fair and conducted with respect for the rights of all individuals.

Senator Go also urged the PNP to stay focused on their duty to protect and serve without being influenced by politics, ensuring their actions are just and within the law.
