In a significant move towards uplifting the economic well-being of Filipino workers, Senate Majority Leader Joel Villanueva voiced his support for Senate Bill 2534. The proposed legislation aims to implement a P100 daily minimum wage increase for workers in the private sector. Villanueva emphasized that this wage adjustment aligns with the constitutional commitment to provide a living wage for all hardworking Filipinos.

Commending the initiative, Villanueva expressed gratitude to Senate President Migz Zubiri, the principal author of the bill, and Sen. Jinggoy Estrada, the Chair of the Committee on Labor, for their efforts in addressing the pressing need for fair compensation for labor.

Senator Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa echoed the sentiment, expressing hope that the proposed wage increase would offer relief to numerous Filipino workers grappling with financial challenges. Dela Rosa, co-sponsoring the bill in his speech on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, acknowledged the intrinsic value of the Filipino worker's dignity, emphasizing that Senate Bill No. 2534 represents the initial stride in recognizing the invaluable contribution of minimum wage earners to the nation's economy.
