The Sinag Maynila Independent Film Festival 2024 just wrapped up its Gabi ng Parangal, and what a night it was. If you missed the buzz, don't worry—we’ve got all the highlights for you right here.

This year, "Her Locket" absolutely stole the show, grabbing the coveted Best Film award and sweeping multiple categories. Directed by the talented J.E. Tiglao, who also bagged Best Director, this film had the audience captivated and the judges nodding in approval. Rebecca Chuaunsu, the star of the film, took home the Best Actress trophy, while Elora Espano snagged Best Supporting Actress for her powerful performance. And let's not forget the accolades for the film’s Screenplay, Production Design, and Cinematography—"Her Locket" was clearly the darling of the night.

On the male side, the always-impressive Ronnie Lazaro was crowned Best Actor for his role in "Gospel of the Beast," while Jansen Magpusao took the honor of Best Supporting Actor for the same film. Both of these performances were nothing short of remarkable, leaving audiences in awe.

But the night wasn’t just about the big winners. Bryan Wong earned Best Editing for his work on "Banjo," and the crowd favorite People's Choice Award went to "Talahib," a film that resonated deeply with viewers.

In the documentary category, “Ino" emerged victorious as Best Documentary Film, while the Jury Prize was awarded to "Pag-ibig Ang Mananaig" for its compelling narrative.

The short film category also had its shining stars. "As The Moth Flies" fluttered to the top, claiming the Best Short Film award, followed by "Bisan Abo Wala Bilin" in second place and "Ang Manininuyot ni Papa Jisos" in third. The Best Short Film Jury Prize went to "Ghosts of Kalantiaw," a hauntingly beautiful piece that left a lasting impression.

The night concluded with a round of applause for all the filmmakers, actors, and crew who continue to push the boundaries of independent cinema in the Philippines. The Ensemble Acting Award fittingly went to the entire cast of "Her Locket," emphasizing the collaborative spirit of filmmaking.
