Pasay City, February 13, 2025 – A high-stakes buy-bust operation in Pasay ended with the arrest of a 39-year-old suspect, alias "Gabo," after he allegedly tried to sell a sniper rifle worth ₱1.2 million to an undercover cop.

The 3rd Special Operations Unit (SOU) of the PNP Maritime Group, in coordination with Baclaran Sub-Station Five and TMRU Pasay, conducted the sting right in front of Dowinn Casino, Brgy. 76, Zone 10, Pasay City. However, things got intense when another suspect, alias "Mike," sensed the presence of the authorities and sped off in a white Mazda sedan—destination unknown.

Illegal Firearms and a Fake AFP ID?

A thorough search of Gabo's Navy Blue Toyota Fortuner revealed a Glock 17 pistol with 14 rounds of ammunition and an Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) identification card. The problem? He couldn't produce a Certificate of Authority from COMELEC, which is required to legally carry firearms during the election period.

What’s Next for the Suspect?

Gabo was immediately taken into custody and is now held at the 3rd SOU Headquarters in Brgy. Don Galo, Parañaque City. The confiscated items have been turned over to the Forensic Unit for ballistic testing and verification. Authorities are now preparing cases against him for violating the Omnibus Election Code and the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act (RA 10591).

Election Season Crackdown

The PNP Maritime Group has been ramping up its efforts to prevent illegal firearms from being used for criminal activities during the election period. This successful operation highlights their commitment to enforcing the law and keeping the streets safe.

As for alias Mike? He’s still out there—but authorities are on his trail.
