In a significant moment for Philippines-U.S. relations, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. warmly received U.S. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin III at the historic Kalayaan Hall in Malacañang Palace on July 30, 2024. Blinken and Austin are in Manila for the 4th Philippines-U.S. Foreign and Defense Ministerial Dialogue, commonly known as the 2+2 Dialogue. This important event is being hosted by Secretary of Foreign Affairs Enrique Manalo and Secretary of National Defense Gilberto Teodoro Jr.

The dialogue, according to a DFA press announcement, aims to bolster the PH-U.S. alliance. The four Secretaries are set to discuss ways to support a rules-based international order, enhance economic ties, and promote broad-based prosperity. They will also address evolving regional and global security challenges, showcasing the deep commitment both countries have towards mutual cooperation and stability.
