Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu, best known for her role in the hit drama Meteor Garden, has passed away at the age of 48 due to complications from influenza-induced pneumonia. Her younger sister, talk show host Dee Hsu, confirmed the heartbreaking news through her agent on Monday, Feb. 3.

A Tragic Loss During a Family Trip

Barbie, also known as "Big S", was on a family trip to Japan for the Lunar New Year when she fell seriously ill. Dee Hsu shared her grief in a statement:

"Our whole family came to Japan for a trip, and my dearest and most kindhearted sister Barbie Hsu died of influenza-induced pneumonia and unfortunately left us."

She added, "I was grateful to be her sister in this life and that we got to care for and spend time with each other. I will always be grateful to her and miss her!"

Barbie is survived by her husband, South Korean DJ and singer Koo Jun-yup, as well as her two children—a 10-year-old daughter and an 8-year-old son—from her previous marriage with Chinese businessman Wang Xiaofei.

Fans and Friends in Shock

The news of Barbie's passing quickly spread online, with netizens speculating about her health before an official statement was made. Some even noticed that her ex-husband, Wang Xiaofei, had changed his profile picture to a solid black image, raising concern among fans.

While the entertainment industry and her closest friends are still processing the loss, tributes have begun pouring in for the beloved actress. Barbie Hsu was not just a star—she was an icon of Taiwanese drama, a loving sister, and a devoted mother.
