In the hills of Negros Occidental, Philippines, there’s a new attraction turning heads and sparking curiosity worldwide—a building shaped like a gigantic chicken. Campuestohan Highland Resort’s quirky and colossal “chicken hotel” has officially been recognized by Guinness World Records as the largest building in the world shaped like a chicken. And trust us, it’s as fun as it sounds.

Standing at an impressive 114 feet tall, stretching 39 feet wide, and extending 92 feet long, this towering structure looks like something out of a fairy tale (or maybe a surrealist dream). It was the vision of Ricardo “Cano Gwapo” Tan, a local entrepreneur who wanted to build something not only unique but unforgettable.

“I’m a dreamer,” Tan shares with a laugh, “and I wanted to create the unthinkable.” And he did just that—adding this feathered friend to the list of attractions at Campuestohan, a resort already beloved for its wave pools, themed cafes, dinosaur statues, and scenic views.

The chicken-shaped building serves as a full-fledged hotel, offering 15 cozy rooms equipped with all the essentials—air conditioning, plush beds, flat-screen TVs, and hot showers—ensuring guests enjoy the perfect mix of quirky design and comfort. Though it may look like a playful novelty on the outside, the hotel was thoughtfully engineered to withstand the region’s storms and typhoons, showing that creativity and practicality can indeed go hand-in-hand.

But why a chicken, you ask? Tan explains that the rooster has a special place in Negros culture, where the gamefowl industry plays a big role in the local economy. “A rooster is calm, commanding, and resilient—just like our people,” he says. “I wanted it to reflect our pride and strength.”

The chicken hotel is more than just a whimsical attraction; it’s a source of pride for the entire community. Tan, who once shined shoes to help his family make ends meet, now stands as a symbol of resilience and success, inspiring visitors and locals alike. “I’m humbled and proud to have put my province on the world map with this Guinness record,” he adds.

Today, Campuestohan Highland Resort is a must-visit destination, not just for its new, feathered resident but for its unforgettable atmosphere and family-friendly amenities. The chicken hotel has captured hearts, sparked wonder, and ensured that a piece of Negros Occidental is now known worldwide.
