Transport Chief Halts Full Cashless Toll System; Calls It Anti-Poor
Screengrab from RTVM
Big news for motorists! Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon has ordered the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) to suspend plans to implement full cashless toll collection, calling it unfair to many Filipinos.

“In my personal view, having a cashless system is not pro-poor. It is anti-poor,” Dizon said in a press conference on Friday.

The move comes after complaints from drivers who struggle with RFID issues, long reload lines, and lack of access to digital payment methods. While cashless toll collection was introduced to ease traffic flow, many motorists—especially those who don’t own bank accounts or digital wallets—have found it inconvenient.

With this suspension, drivers will once again have the option to pay toll fees in cash, making expressways more accessible for everyone.

What do you think? Should tollways keep both cash and cashless options permanently?
