Petro Gazz Angels welcomed back MJ Phillips, who made a triumphant return to the squad just in time for the highly anticipated 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference.

The 28-year-old middle blocker, who recently showcased her skills with the Gwangju AI Peppers in the Korean Volleyball League, emerged as the sole Filipina drafted in the Asian Quota Draft.

Phillips' journey abroad reached its peak before her departure last July when she secured the title of Best Middle Blocker in both the 2022 Reinforced Conference and the 2023 First All-Filipino Conference.

Her outstanding performance during these tournaments earned her the prestigious fifth overall pick in the 2023 KOVO Asian Quota Draft, showcasing the recognition of her talent on an international level.

During Phillips' absence, the Angels faced challenges, concluding the Invitational Conference in the ninth position and the Second All-Filipino Conference in sixth place. The absence of their key player was felt, but the team continued to strive for success under various circumstances.

Now, with the return of MJ Phillips, the Angels are poised for a remarkable comeback. Under the guidance of coach Koji Tsuzurabara, the team is fresh off their PNVF Champions League triumph last weekend. The squad has also added new recruits to its already impressive roster, including the likes of Myla Pablo and Brooke Van Sickle.

The addition of Phillips brings a renewed sense of strength and experience to the team. Her triumphant return comes at a crucial time, just as the Angels gear up for the 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference.
