In a seismic event that shook the region, Japan’s Meteorological Agency has issued a tsunami warning following a 7.4 magnitude earthquake near Japan.

Authorities have identified potential tsunami threats for specific coastal regions, urging residents and government agencies to take immediate action.

Tsunami waves ranging from 0.3 to 1 meter above tide level are anticipated for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), Japan, and Russia. The coasts of the Republic of Korea are expected to experience waves less than 0.3 meters above tide level.

Government agencies in threatened coastal areas are urgently advised to inform and instruct populations at risk. Residents in these areas are urged to stay alert and follow instructions from national and local authorities.

The anticipated arrival of tsunami waves is as follows:
- Niigata, Japan: 07:50 UTC
- Sapporo, Japan: 08:48 UTC
- Vladivostok, Russia: 08:57 UTC
- Shimane, Japan: 09:04 UTC
- Sinchang, DPRK: 09:04 UTC
- Nagasaki, Japan: 12:12 UTC

The potential impacts of the tsunami are varied and may persist for hours after the initial wave.

Local bathymetry, shoreline shape, and tide conditions will influence the extent of these impacts. Individuals in the water during a tsunami face risks such as drowning, debris impact, or being swept out to sea.

Coastal and deep-ocean sea level gauges report critical observations, including a maximum tsunami height of 0.58m/1.9ft in Toyama, Japan. The Japan Meteorological Agency has reported maximum crest to mean wave heights exceeding 120cm at Wajimako and 40cm at Kashiwazakishi Kujiranami.
