Vice President Sara Duterte Slams PNP Chief In Open Letter
File
Vice President Sara Duterte has issued a strongly worded open letter to Rommel Marbil, responding to ongoing controversies regarding her security detail.

In her letter, Duterte addressed Marbil’s recent interviews and allegations about the reduction of her security personnel. She emphasized that the issue was never about the actual safety of her role but rather about the misleading statements being made.

“Rommel, when the issue about reducing my security detail came up, I immediately stated that it would not affect my duties as Vice President of the Philippines. I hoped that this matter would be resolved quickly, as there are far more pressing issues facing our country than my personal protection,” Duterte wrote.

She expressed frustration with what she perceives as Marbil’s continuous misinformation. “I understand that when people lie, they create various stories and excuses. But I can no longer tolerate the ongoing deception,” Duterte stated.

Duterte reiterated her stance that she had no problem with the reduction of her security personnel from the Philippine National Police (PNP). “I can work without security. However, I take issue with the lies being spread to the public, especially when such lies come from high-ranking officials within the police force,” she said.

She detailed several points in her letter:

1. The Vice Presidential Protection Division (VPPD): “The VPPD was established under PSPG by NAPOLCOM’s directive to ensure that my security and that of future Vice Presidents are not interfered with. This is clearly stated in NAPOLCOM and PNP documents.”

2. Local Police Augmentation: “The VPPD was created precisely to prevent such disturbances and ensure local police are not disrupted.”

3. False Requests: “There was no request for a reduction of personnel; PSPG merely informed the OVP of their decision. This was documented, and no further negotiation was needed.”

4. Security Threats: “Despite your claims of no perceived threat, there were malicious attempts to undermine my security, including unauthorized video footage and harassment by PNP operatives at my residence.”

5. Police Visibility and Transfers: “Your claim of improving police visibility is questionable, especially when personnel from Mindanao are being transferred to NCR. This does not address the root issues of policing and safety.”

Duterte concluded her letter by urging Marbil to stop including her in his interviews and focus on more pressing national issues. “Let’s prioritize helping flood victims, grieving families, those suffering from illnesses, and addressing poverty and hunger,” she said.

In her postscript, Duterte highlighted her concern over the ongoing drug and crime issues, suggesting that the return of the 45 police officers she trusted could help address these problems.

“Remember, Rommel, always tell the truth to avoid tangled stories,” she added.
