VP Sara Duterte Fires Back: 'This Narrative Has No Flesh'

Vice President Sara Duterte is not holding back in her response to the Marcos administration's claims of an active threat against the President, First Lady, and Speaker of the House. Addressing a statement issued by the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) under Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on November 23, Duterte accused the administration of spinning a baseless narrative.
"The Marcos administration’s insistence that the President's life is under active threat is ominous," Duterte remarked, slamming what she called an exaggerated and unfounded storyline based on her earlier statements.
"No Flesh on the Bone"
Duterte argued that the administration’s claims lack evidence and warned against rash conclusions. "There is absolutely no flesh on the bone, and despite the absence of a reliable investigation, authorities were quick to consider this a national security concern," she said.
She highlighted the contrast in how threats to her life and those of her personnel have been treated. “The diametric contrast and inaction are displayed when I have expressed in previous months threats to my person and continuing threats to the lives of OVP personnel,” she noted.
"Assassin" Claims Called Out
Duterte also criticized the use of the term assassin in the narrative, calling it a terrifying escalation. "Tossing the word ‘assassin’ into this issue makes things even more terrifying — especially because I never used that term during my recent consternation against the Marcos administration’s failure to serve the Filipinos while it masterfully persecutes political enemies."
She clarified that her previous statements were conditional and did not equate to an active threat. "Common sense should be enough for us to understand and accept that a supposed conditional act of revenge does not constitute an active threat. This is a plan without a flesh," Duterte said emphatically.
A Call for Honest Scrutiny
Duterte concluded her response with confidence that a proper investigation would expose the claims for what they truly are. "I am confident that an honest scrutiny would easily expose this narrative to be farce, imagined, or nothing at all," she asserted.
