Wage Hike Alert: New Minimum Wage Increases For CALABARZON And Central Visayas Workers
Good news for workers in CALABARZON and Central Visayas. New wage orders have been issued, which means a boost in the daily minimum wage for private sector employees across these regions. Here's what you need to know.

Wage Increase Breakdown:

In CALABARZON (Region IV-A), workers will enjoy wage increases ranging from P21 to P75 per day, while in Central Visayas (Region VII), the adjustment is between P33 to P43. This boost comes after President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.’s Labor Day directive to review regional wage rates.

For Region IV-A, the new wage rates will kick in on **September 30, 2024**, and for Region VII, it’s October 2, 2024. The adjustments aim to keep up with rising living costs while also helping workers support their families.

What’s the New Wage Like?

For CALABARZON, the daily minimum wage will now range between P425 and P560 depending on the sector and location. Specifically:

- Non-agriculture sector: P450 to P560
- Agriculture sector: P425 to P500
- Retail and service establishments with less than ten workers: P425

Over in Central Visayas, the new wage rates have been simplified, with the highest being P501 for Class A areas like Cebu City and P453 for Class C areas, which include smaller municipalities.

What Does This Mean for Workers?

This pay hike directly affects 1.2 million minimum wage earners in these regions and will also likely benefit another 2.7 million workers whose salaries are above the minimum wage. This ripple effect can come from businesses adjusting their pay structures to address wage disparities.

Along with the salary increase, benefits like the 13th-month pay, service incentives, and social security (SSS, PhilHealth, and Pag-IBIG) will also see a bump.

Special Cases and Exemptions

If you're part of a small business (retail/service establishment with less than ten employees), or if your company has been hit by natural disasters, there's an option to apply for an exemption from the wage hike. Meanwhile, Barangay Micro Business Enterprises (BMBEs) are exempted under the law, thanks to Republic Act No. 9178.

The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boards (RTWPBs) will also be rolling out info campaigns to make sure everyone’s on the same page and that businesses are compliant. If you have questions or want to apply for an exemption, feel free to reach out to the RTWPBs via email.
