If you're in Northern Luzon, it looks like today is going to be a wet one, so keep those umbrellas handy. As of 4:00 AM on September 5, 2024, Typhoon Yagi, which was formerly known as "Enteng," is lingering just outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), and its trough is making its presence felt in the western section of Northern Luzon.

Currently, Typhoon Yagi is positioned about 480 km west-northwest of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, packing some pretty powerful winds of up to 175 km/h, with gusts reaching 215 km/h. It's heading westward at 25 km/h, but even though it's outside of PAR, we're not completely off the hook just yet.

Weather Conditions to Watch Out For

- Cordillera, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur: Expect cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms. With the trough of Typhoon Yagi affecting the region, be on the lookout for possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains.

- Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro: The Southwest Monsoon is in full swing here, bringing monsoon rains. Heavy to intense rainfall could lead to flooding or landslides, so stay alert.

- Metro Manila, La Union, Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, Laguna, Oriental Mindoro, and the rest of Central Luzon: Occasional rains will be the theme of the day, thanks to the Southwest Monsoon. Flash floods or landslides are possible due to moderate to heavy rainfall.

- Quezon, Marinduque, and Romblon: Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected. The Southwest Monsoon could cause moderate to heavy rains, so be cautious of potential flash floods or landslides.

- The rest of the country: It's a bit of a mixed bag—partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. Keep in mind that localized thunderstorms could bring sudden downpours, so don't be caught off guard. Flash floods or landslides are possible during severe thunderstorms.

What You Can Do

With the possibility of flash floods and landslides in many areas, it’s a good idea to stay informed and prepared. Monitor the weather, especially if you live in low-lying or mountainous areas. Keep your emergency kits ready and stay safe indoors if heavy rains begin to pour.
