Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Jaime Morente confirmed that all bureau frontliners at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) tested negative for the 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) after swab testing.

“We are elated upon learning that, so far, none of our frontliners at the NAIA have been infected by the virus,” Morente said on Friday.

Morente also said this includes the nine immigration officers at the NAIA who were earlier suspected of having COVID-19.

The nine officials were made to undergo confirmatory tests after they yielded positive results in the rapid antibody tests administered on June 5.

Morente added that the 43 bureau personnel at the Clark International Airport in Pampanga have also tested negative for COVID-19.

The bureau chief however urged all of his employees to remain vigilant and not be complacent as the battle against COVID-19 is far from over.

“This is a necessary measure we cannot forego in the face of this continuing pandemic,” he said.

Morente recently required over 3,000 BI employees to undergo rapid testing for COVID-19 after one of the bureau’s main office employees in Intramuros tested positive for the disease, leading to the temporary closure of the said office.
