The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has temporarily closed its main office in Intramuros, Manila after one of its employees tested positive for COVID-19.

“We have decided to temporarily close our main office to protect not only our employees, but that of the transacting public as well against this deadly virus,” BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said in a statement.

BI acting spokesperson Melvin Mabulac said the employee underwent rapid testing at the agency last Saturday.

He added that other employees who had close contact with the COVID-positive employee will be prioritized for further testing.

Morente meanwhile said clients who secured online appointments at the main office will be given new schedules.

He assured that BI satellite and extension offices in Metro Manila will remain open for business.

He also urged the public to keep checking the official BI website for important announcements.
