The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has started investigating the case of the Spanish national who figured in an altercation with a police officer inside Dasmariñas Village, Makati City on Sunday.

“The matter has been forwarded to our intelligence division for assessment and case build-up to determine if there is an immigration violation following the said incident,” BI spokesperson Dana Sandoval said.

The altercation between Parra and the police officer stemmed from an alleged quarantine violation by Parra's house helper. The video showed Parra arguing with the police officer. Another showed the police officer grappling with and eventually tackling Parra to the ground.

The Makati City police station already charged Parra with direct assault, resistance and disobedience to a person in authority; unjust vexation; and violation of City Ordinance number 2020-089 for not wearing a facemask.

The police said they are now validating if Parra is overstaying in the Philippines.

Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente reminded all foreign nationals to comply with the Enhanced Community Quarantine and other related laws set by the Philippine government.

Morente warned that erring foreigners will be deported and blacklisted.

“Aliens who blatantly disregard our laws, especially during this period, not only face criminal charges but also immigration deportation cases as well. If deported, alien offenders will be perpetually barred from returning to the country,” Morente said.

He emphasized that the ECQ guidelines were put in place to ensure the safety of everyone including foreign nationals.
