The Department of Health has recorded 75 new cases of COVID-19 in the Bicol region as of 6 p.m. of June 1. Sixty patients have recovered, while six are still admitted in the Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital. Five have died from the disease.
A 23-year-old male health worker from Tigaon, Camarines Sur was the latest individual and the 25th health worker to test positive for COVID-19 in the region.
In Legazpi City, one locally stranded individual with a history of travel to Laguna and Cavite tested positive for COVID-19 last May 29.
Legazpi Mayor Noel Rosal said the patient in question did not follow city protocols requiring locally stranded individuals (LSIs) and returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs) to proceed directly to the Legazpi City community home quarantine facility. Rosal added that the patient went straight home and had a drinking spree with friends before going to the quarantine facility.
He is now at the Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital while nine others who had close contact with him underwent swab testing.
Rosal asked the Punong Barangay to explain how the said patient was able to meet his friends without being monitored by the barangay.
The city government had directed all Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams (BHERT) to regularly monitor the health status of all locally stranded individuals (LSIs) and returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs) in their respective areas.
