Caloocan court grants bail to 'GCQ violators'

MANILA – The Caloocan City Metropolitan Trial Court (MeTC) on Monday granted bail to the six men, who were arrested last week for staging a protest against the continued ban on jeepneys during the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

In an order, MeTC Branch 52 Acting Executive Judge Dorothy Grace Dacuna-Inciong allowed the six drivers, namely Severino Ramos, Wilson Ramilla, Ramon Paloma, Ruben Baylon, Elmer Cordero, and Arsenio Ymas Jr., to post bail of PHP3,000 each as recommended by the city prosecutor.

All are residents of Caloocan City and Malabon and were represented by counsel Vicente Jaime Topacio.

The six were arrested last week and charged with simple resistance and disobedience to persons in authority after they held a protest amid the general community quarantine (GCQ). demanding to be allowed to ply their routes as public utility jeepney drivers.

However, reports said only four of the six men were freed after Ramilla was found to have a previous carnapping case that has not been dismissed while Cordero has a namesake with a criminal record.

Public transport, which includes bus augmentation services, point-to-point buses, train systems, taxis, transport vehicle network services, operate at a limited capacity under the GCQ in Metro Manila. (PNA)
