Cebu City spokesperson Rey Gealon said 16 new recoveries from COVID-19 were recorded on Wednesday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,176.

He added that the city is down to 1,246 active cases, though 42 new COVID-19 cases and one death from Barangay Carreta were also recorded.

“Kita nagsubay sa DOH memorandum, pag-leveling sa mga pasyente gikan sa BIC sa positive nga asymptomatic, quarantine facility sa level 2, ug sa level 3 sa Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center,” he said.

(We follow the DOH memorandum in leveling the patients starting with the BIC (barangay isolation centers) for the positive yet asymptomatic, to the quarantine facility for the level 2 patients and the level 3 ones to the VSMMC.)

Gealon also denied reports that city hospitals are swelling with coronavirus patients, saying the total admission of Covid-19 patients is not even half the hospital’s capacity.

“Wa pa gani kaabot og 50% admission sa Covid patients ang kinatibuk-an nga sitwasyon dinhi sa syudad labot sa atong pag-manage sa atong Covid patients. Kana pagsukwahi, pagklaro nga dili tinuod ang gikatumbok nga napuno atong balay tambalann diri sa syudad,” he explained.

(We haven’t even reached the 50-percent admission of Covid patients in all of our hospitals in the city. That is to negate claims that our hospitals are swarming with coronavirus patients.)

Gealon said 90 percent of the recoveries were from the isolation centers. He added that patients there received adequate care in terms of food, water, medicine and vitamin-C needs. He also emphasized that medical personnel at the hospitals and isolation centers deserve some thanks for the recoveries.

“Atong gikalipay nga daghan ang naka-recover aning sakit,” he said.

(We are happy that there are many who have recovered from this sickness.)

Gealon meanwhile assured that the lockdowns in Sitio Callejon in Barangay Labangon, Barangay Tejero and Barangay Bacayan will soon be lifted.

“In the next few days, because of these developments, because of the decreasing positive and increasing recoveries, there is a need to lift the lockdown status in these areas,” he said.

He asked residents in locked down areas to be patient while the city looks for ways to bring normalcy back to their areas.
