Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia urged expectant mothers to consider giving birth in the provincial hospitals located in the cities of Carcar, Danao, and Bogo, and in Balamban town.

She advised them to avoid hospitals in the cities of Talisay and Cebu where Covid-19 cases have increased in number.

Four of ten new COVID-19 cases announced on May 18 were women who gave birth in Talisay District Hospital (TDH) in Talisay City and in Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City. VSMMC is a central hospital for covid patients, while TDH is where most of Talisay’s coronavirus patients are brought for treatment and swabbing.

The other new cases are a newborn from Toledo City born in TDH, a one-year-old child from San Fernando, a health worker from Minglanilla and three more Talisay residents. One of the three from Talisay died in VSMMC from a brain aneurysm.

Garcia said she already ordered local health officials to investigate the rising number of Covid patients among regular patients who visited hospitals.
