Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia said her province is set to transition from enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) to what she calls enhanced countryside development as it battles the economic effects of Covid-19.

“We will graduate to GCQ (general community quarantine) from ECQ. We will transition to Enhanced Countryside Development, a development for the province where there will be opportunities for all Cebuanos to better their respective lives,” said Garcia on Sugbo News.

Malacanang spokesperson Harry Roque said the province of Cebu is among the local government units that will be under GCQ starting May 16. The province has been under ECQ since March 30, 2020.

Garcia said she is positive that the crisis will end soon. She adds that the provincial government has put in place programs that will make the transition easier.

The governor earlier said she would push for countryside development. She noted that the province’s agricultural resources have not been maximized during the ECQ,

The governor however said she was happy that the province has kept the number of Covid cases at a minimum.

“We hope that the ECQ will be lifted soon as we all know its effects on our economy especially on the people who are suffering,” she added.
