Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia has ordered all repatriated Cebuano seafarers who arrived in Cebu at dawn of Tuesday, April 28 to undergo a 14-day quarantine.

They will only be allowed to return to their homes after completing the mandatory quarantine and if they test negative for Covid-19.

The seafarers, who were stuck in Manila for a month because of the lockdown, arrived in Cebu on board a 2GO passenger ship.

In her earlier live news conference, Garcia admitted she only learned of the 185 returning OFWs through social media posts She said the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), the agency in charge of sending the stranded OFWs back to their hometowns, did not coordinate with the provincial government.

“There must be coordination because we are all in this together. We have a huge responsibility to the whole of Cebu with the coming of these 185 repatriates,” Garcia said in a statement published by Sugbo News, an official Facebook page of the provincial government.

Garcia reminded OWWA that she already banned all incoming flights and boat trips to the province since the province-wide enhanced community quarantine took effect last March 30, 2020 in an effort to prevent the spread of virus.

As of today, April 28, the province only has four Covid-19 cases.
