Celebs mourn passing of veteran director Peque Gallaga

MAYNILA - Veteran filmmaker Peque Gallaga, who directed the 1982 classic film “Oro, Plata, Mata,” has died of pneumonia in Bacolod City. He was 76.

Mourning the loss of one of Philippine cinema’s legends, several local celebrities took to social media to express their condolences. 

On Instagram, Anne Curtis wrote: “I will forever be grateful to him and Direk Lore for choosing me to be their Princess Dahlia in Magic Kingdom.. it breaks my heart knowing that he won’t get to meet my own little Dahlia. Direk Peque, thank you for giving me a role that would change my life forever. I will miss you and will treasure the memories and lessons you taught me in the craft of acting. Rest In Peace. I love you. My deepest condolences to the Gallaga Family.”

Judy Ann Santos shared: “My dearest direk Peque... i will forever be grateful for the chance na nakatrabaho kita.. your passion for your craft is undeniable in so many ways.. your wisdom in many things, your honesty, professionalism, genuine love and kindness to everyone around you , your hugs and laughter i will miss the most.. thank you for allowing me to know you personally.. you and direk lore and ate jo will forever have a special place in my heart.. you added more color and texture in my career... maraming maraming salamat sa lahat direk peque gallaga... #rip.”

Comedienne Ai Ai delas Alas wrote: “Halos lahat ng Shake Rattle and Roll ay kasama mo ako dahil gusto mo ako kasama direk. Maraming salamat sa iyong napakaganda at napakahusay na kontribusyon sa sining ng Pelikulang Pilipino. Paalam po direk Peque Gallaga. May you rest in peace.

Actress-singer Zsa Zsa Padilla tweeted: “From Hiwaga sa Balete Drive. Took his photo while he was giving me instructions for one scene. Maraming salamat, Peque Gallaga.”

Actor-singer Khalil Ramos wrote: “Definitely one of the best to ever do it.”

Jaclyn Jose shared: “I will always remember your compassion, your smile. I will forever miss you.”

Gallaga made his directorial debut with the movie “Binhi” in 1973. He also worked on numerous films, including "Scorpio Nights," "Virgin Forest” and “Unfaithful Wife.” 

Gallaga teamed up with Lore Reyes in helming fantasy hit movies like "Magic Temple” and “Once Upon a Time." His final project was the animated film “Magikland.”
