DILG: Tricycles still prohibited on national highways

Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) spokesperson Jonathan Malaya has reiterated that tricycles are still banned from national highways for safety reasons.

Malaya said tricycles are prone to crashes based on records of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Philippine National Police (PNP).

“Napagkasunduan namin na bawal pa rin talaga ang tricycles and pedicabs sa pangunahing highways for safety reasons. “Huhulihin ang mga tricycles sa national highways,” Malaya said during Thursday’s Laging Handa press conference.

(We have agreed that tricycles and pedicabs are banned from national highways for safety reasons. We will apprehend tricycles on national highways)

He clarified that tricycles are only allowed to operate within barangay roads or inner roads.

He added that the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) still bans motorcycle backriding in Metro Manila even under general community quarantine (GCQ).
