The Department of Health (DOH) says the curve of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the Philippines is flattening.

DOH spokesperson Usec. Maria Rosario Vergerie explained that the case doubling time of COVID-19 cases has already reached seven to 7.5 days, longer than the previous one to three days interval.

Doubling time is how long it takes before the number of cases increases. Longer doubling time means the increase is slower.

“Isang magandang indikasyon para masabi natin na nag-uumpisa na tayong mag-flatten ng curve (It is a good indication for us to say that we are starting to flatten the curve),” Vergerie said on Wednesday.

But she adds that it is too early to say that the Philippines can sustain this flattening of the curve.

She also urged the public to continue to be vigilant against the coronavirus disease and observe the health protocols set by the DOH, especially on the wearing of face masks and observing social distancing.
