Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra has ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to investigate the ambush of Maguindanao massacre state witness Mohammad Sangki.
“The NBI, through Officer-in-Charge Eric B. Distor, is hereby directed and granted authority to conduct an investigation and case build-up on the ambush of Mohammad Sangki,” Guevarra said in a June 4 order.
He also ordered Distor to file appropriate charges against the persons responsible for ambushing Sangki and to submit progress reports on the investigation.
Sangki is also under the DOJ’s witness protection program.
Sangki was travelling with his driver and security officer Richard Escobilla along Tantangan, South Cotabato on their way to the airport from Tacurong City when still unidentified gunmen ambushed them.
Sangki sustained injuries after his car crashed into some cottages during the ambush.
He survived an earlier ambush attempt last March in Sharif Agouk, Maguindanao
