FIBA (Fédération Internationale de Basketball) confirmed on Monday that the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 will take place from August 25 to September 10, 2023.

FIBA's Central Board approved the dates following consultation with the host nations and a recommendation by FIBA's Competitions Commission.

FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 will have the Group Phase take place in Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines, with the Final Phase to be held in Manila.

It will be the first time for the competition to be held in more than one country.

The FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 will feature 32 national teams from around the world. It will also use the expanded format adopted last year in China where Spain bagged the championship after beating Argentina.

FIBA will also continue its competition system implemented in 2017. The qualification process will include six windows over a 15-month period across the four regions of Africa, Americas, Asia/Oceania and Europe.

Pre-qualifiers started in February 2020 in Europe where eight teams are expected to qualify. The Americas Pre-Qualifiers to be held later this year are expected to produce four teams for the 2023 event.

Qualification for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 will take place from November 2021 to February 2023, with 80 national teams competing for a spot in the World Cup. The first window of qualification will be played from November 22 - 30, 2021.

The FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 official website has already been put up to give updates.
