Police summoned former senator Jinggoy Estrada for violating enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) guidelines in San Juan City on Sunday afternoon, May 3.
San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora said Estrada left his residence and led a distribution of relief goods without securing clearance from the local government unit.
“Under the DILG regulations, any persons or organizations that would like to conduct relief operations must coordinate with the LGUs so that we can help monitor the crowd, maintain social distancing and peace order,” Zamora said.
Estrada insisted that he did not violate ECQ guidelines and was only helping the LGU in distributing food and giving help to the residents of San Juan.
“No one can prevent me from helping my people from San Juan, that’s it. Lahat ng tao kailangan ng pagkain nandito ako tumulong para bigyan sila ng pagkain (all people need food, so here I am to help give them food),” Estrada said.
Estrada stayed at the San Juan police station for a few hours before being allowed to go home before 8 p.m.
