Holy mass resumes in Legazpi

Masses in the Diocese of Legazpi resumed today, May 25.

Parishioners had been unable to hear mass for two months because of the imposed Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ).

Saint Padre Pio Parish in Rawis, Legazpi City was among the churches that resumed the holding of mass while observing the guidelines set by the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF).

Father Bob Banares, Parish Priest, said in his homily that it was nice to see people going back to church, but was worried that people may flock to churches.

The parish also hopes that the IATF will approve their request to allow more than one third of the church capacity or 73 persons. They said social distancing can still be observed with the said number.

The IATF had earlier set some guidelines on mass attendance.

Mass attendees are only limited to ten.

Body temperature will be checked upon entry into the church.

Alcohol is also provided to sanitize the hands of parishioners.

Markings on the church pews and floor are visible to encourage social distancing.

Masses were also shortened to limit parishioners' exposure. Homilies were made short and no songs were sung.

The Diocese of Legazpi will still provide live streaming of daily masses for those not allowed to and are unable to attend.

Saturday anticipated and Sunday masses will not yet be allowed in most parishes of Legazpi, Albay and Daraga Area.
