CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Pursuit operations have been launched against the gunmen behind the broad daylight attack that killed the wife of a Lanao del Sur town mayor Wednesday morning in Brgy. Iponan here.
Maj. Aldrin Baculio, Police Station 7 police chief, said the attack involving two motorcycle-riding men wounded Lumbaca-Unayan Mayor Somerado Guro and killed his wife Rohaifa.
Baculio said couple's driver, Ibrahim Gani, 58, and another staff, 19-year-old Abdul Rafi Guro, sustained gunshot wounds but were already in stable conditions.
"She (Rohaifa) died at the hospital around 12:40 p.m. and her relatives were immediately there to retrieve her body (so she can be buried) in Lanao del Sur," he said, indicating that the victim will be buried under Islamic rites.
“Mayor Guro is okay. He can talk. He is in the emergency room,” the police official added.
Lt. Wilfredo Uba Jr., deputy station commander of the Bulua police station, said Guro’s driver managed to drive the vehicle all to the way to a nearby private hospital.
Uba said the police recovered 10 used shells fired from a .45-caliber handgun.
Citing a witness account, Uba said the attackers followed the mayor’s vehicle and pumped bullets into its side while on approach.
Guro has a house in Bloomingdale, one of the housing subdivisions in Barangay Iponan here.
Baculio said Guro's relatives told investigators the local chief executive has no known case of "rido" or clan feud in Lanao del Sur. (PNA)
