Actress Lauren Young recently used her voice on social media to share her own #HijaAko story.

Over the weekend, Frankie Pangilinan’s twitter feud with Ben Tulfo about his response to her speaking out on rape culture instantly took social media by storm. Women rousingly used the hashtag #HijaAko, coined from Ben Tulfo’s response to Frankie, to raise awareness on sexual misconduct, spread the word that a woman’s choice of clothing does not prevent rape or other forms of sexual violence, and to stop victim-blaming.

“I was at a bar in Boracay, sober, with my friends and a guy kept harassing everyone there. He kept talking to me and bothering me and just grabbed my boobs out of nowhere. I was fully covered up even at the beach and yet he violated me publicly. #HijaAko,” she tweeted in response to Ben Tulfo’s saying that a ‘rapists’ desire to commit a crime will always be there,” and all they need is an opportunity to do it, so women should be careful with the way they dress.

Lauren also stressed that people should stop blaming it on what others choose to wear, and educate others that victims aren’t asking for it if they choose to wear revealing clothes.

Young also gave a mouthful about the double standard involving men and women: “And btw if a women is intoxicated it’s her fault? If a man is intoxicated ‘ayy sorry lasing ako’ excuses start to come in. #HijaAko,” she tweeted.
