The Light Rail Transit Administration (LRTA) said it cannot yet fully operate even if quarantine restrictions are lifted next month.

LRT-2 spokesman Hernan Cabrera said the bidding process for the procurement of the temporary power supply system was affected by the lockdown.

Cabrera added that they aim to restart the bidding process by next month so that they can resume full operations by September or before the end of the year.

“Hopefully by June ay maumpisahan na natin ang bidding hanggang September para masagawa na yung temporary power supply at para magamit na ang Santolan, Katipunan at Anonas stations (we can restart the bidding up to September so we could repair the temporary power supply and use the Santolan, Katipunan and Anonas stations),” Cabrera said.

The LRT-2 suspended operations of Santolan, Katipunan and Anonas stations after a fire damaged its power transformer in October last year.

Cabrera said the LRT-2 will continue with its operations from Recto to Cubao stations and back.

He said they will also observe health protocols against COVID-19, which include mandatory wearing of face masks, the implementation of social distancing measures and limiting the number of commuters in each train car.
