ORLANDO, Florida – The National Basketball Association (NBA) announced plans to restart the 2019-2020 regular season in Disney World Orlando in late June.

The NBA on Saturday, May 23 said it is in talks with the Walt Disney Company about the restart.

"The NBA, in conjunction with the National Basketball Players Association, is engaged in exploratory conversations with The Walt Disney Company about restarting the 2019-20 NBA season in late July at Disney's ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Florida as a single site for an NBA campus for games, practices and housing," said NBA Chief Communications Officer Mike Bass.

He added that the NBA prioritizes the health and safety of everyone involved and are in cooperation with public health experts and government officials in making a comprehensive set of guidelines for appropriate medical protocols and protections.

The NBA league will be using only one venue for the games for the safety of the teams. It chose the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex in Disney World Orlando, saying it is an ideal place to house all 30 teams given its size and infrastructure.

The NBA is still mired in debate on how to restart the season. The front offices of each team will make proposals about the matter and will be decided upon by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver with guidance from public health professionals.

The number of players, coaches, and staff that will be participating from each team is yet to be determined.
