NEDA Chief resigns as Philippines continues fight against COVID-19

Citing differences with other Cabinet members, Socioeconomic and Planning Secretary Ernesto Pernia resigned from his position, Friday afternoon.

Pernia said his decision came after consulting with family members and colleagues.

“I have decided to resign from my post as Secretary of Socioeconomic Planning. This is due partly to personal reasons and partly to differences in development philosophy with a few of my fellow Cabinet members,” his statement reads.
 
Pernia served as the head of the National Economic Development Board since the start of the Duterte Administration and spearheaded the Philippine Development Plan 2017-2022 program towards the creation of the Ambisyon Natin 2040 project.
 
Malacanang confirmed that President Duterte accepted Pernia’s resignation.and that Finance Undersecretary Karl Kendrick Chua will be the new Socioeconomic Secretary.
