Of Lockdowns and Landings

After all that has been spread (ashfall and viruses) and done (Luzon lockdown), the Metro’s hustle and bustle came to an abrupt hush. The enhanced community quarantine has forced us to stay at home and limit activities that require going outside. Thanks to Netflix (if you are lucky to have decent internet at home), this month-long confinement might be doable and bearable. Yes, binge watching a series can really make one stay put.

Now is a good time to take your pick. The platform has a wide variety of genres for everyone. While the Netflix world is abuzz with Kingdom (Season 2), a
s it seems to be “relatable” to our plight right now, I’ve landed on Crash Landing On You (C.L.O.Y)… for the third time around!

I still have not moved on from the final episode last February 16. And they say third time’s the charm. As I watch the series for the “rd” time, its charm (beginning episode 1) never fades – it’s what reality and daydreams are made of. We face the fact of family struggles, political interests in play (whether in government or corporate), love against all odds (unrequited love, TOTGA’s and the right love at the wrong time… or place, in this case). On the other side of the balance that tips on the world of fantasy, there’s a “Picky Princess” (Yoon Se-ri) from the 0.001 percentile of the social economic pyramid. She is poised to reach greater heights with all the money she’s been born with and worked hard for until the winds of fate blew her to a completely different world, literally crash landing in the arms of the incredibly dapper Captain (Ri Jeong-Hyeok) in a military uniform. Oh my cheesy heart is melting again at the thought of these two!

The main characters are not the only gems of C.L.O.Y. Captain has a faithful company with lovable personalities throughout the series. (And may I just say each one is oppa-pable!). Our heiress was initially the target of the “gossip girls” (village women) who evolved to be genuine gals consoling her during a time of heartache. Then my second best favorites, Seo Dan (the “real fiancée”) and Gu Seung-Jung (the “would’ve-been” fiancé). The development of their characters is admirable and their storylines, in my humble, fangirl opinion, are worthy of another series, if not a second season!

Aside from the characters, there were the scenic locations to swoon over (Switzerland just moved up my bucketlist) and lots of “stolen” (when Captain Ri and Seri have not yet confessed their love for each other) kilig moments that left me crumbling on my seat. (Let’s all together reach into our pockets and give out those heart fingers!)

But let me stop right here for this piece is not meant to spoil the spoilers. I know a lot has been spread and done but to those out there who are just crashing on their couches to catch up on Netflix in this lockdown season, you might land on C.L.O.Y. to pass some time. For now, I will leave you in peace to choose between love or war (or any other genre) at a time of Corona (virus) quarantine.
