The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Monday announced that instead of the original date of airing on February 28,2021, the telecast has been postponed by two months.

Oscars 2021 will now air on April 25,2021 at the Dolby Theater at Hollywood And Highland Center in Hollywood and will be televised live on the ABC Television Network in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide, as announced on their official website.

“For over a century, movies have played an important role in comforting, inspiring and entertaining us during the darkest of times. They certainly have this year. Our hope, in extending the eligibility period and our awards date is to provide the flexibility filmmakers need to finish and release their films without being penalized for something beyond anyone’s control,” said Academy President David Rubin and Academy CEO Dawn Hudson.

The eligibility period of the Oscars will also be extended to February 28,2021 and the shortlist announcement will be on February 9, Nominations will be announced on March 15.

Other events involving the 93rd Academy Awards like the opening of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is scheduled on April 30,2021.

The change of schedule is due to the result of the global pandemic caused by COVID-19.
