BUTUAN CITY – Sachets containing suspected shabu worth over PHP500,000 were confiscated in a buy-bust operation in the Surigao del Sur town of Tago.

Col. James T. Goforth, director of the Surigao del Sur Provincial Police Office (SDSPPO), identified the suspect of Tuesday's buy-bust operation in Barangay Victoria, Tago, as Brando Gomez, 26, a resident of Marihatag town, Surigao del Sur.

Goforth said Gomez yielded two pieces of heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu weighing around 50 grams with a market value of PHP590,000.

“The suspect is on our watch list and we have been tracking his activities until a buy-bust operation was finalized that led to his arrest,” the police official said.

Goforth lauded the provincial police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency "for a successful operation".

“Our intensified drives against illegal drugs and other forms of illegal activities are unhampered despite the services we render at the quarantine checkpoints and other security operations in line with the fight to contain the spread of the 2019 coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in Surigao del Sur,” he said.

The arrested suspect and the confiscated illegal substances are now under the custody of PDEA-13, he added. (PNA)
