Joint Task Force coronavirus disease (JTF COVID) Shield Commander Police Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said police checkpoints and curfew hours will remain in effect in Metro Manila after the shift to general community quarantine (GCQ) on Monday.

“Patuloy pa rin po ang pagsasagawa ng mga checkpoints natin, lamang yun ay modified na. And of course, itong curfew natin, na mandated naman sa lahat ng level ng community quarantine ay patuloy na nandiyan,” Eleazar told “Laging Handa (we will continue manning checkpoints, though they will be modified. Of course, the curfew continues as it is mandated in quarantine),” he said in a press briefing earlier today.

Eleazar said police officers will no longer check motorists individually to avoid causing inconvenience to them.

He however said officers will still ensure that only authorized persons are allowed outside. He also said the police will add checkpoints in some areas and will adjust their mobile checkpoints.

Eleazar also emphasized that non-authorized persons will still be prohibited from crossing borders.

Employees working for business establishments that resumed operations on June 1 however are allowed. The JTF COVID chief said employees will no longer be required to present any travel order when crossing borders.

He however said back-riding on motorcycles is still prohibited under the new guidelines of the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

He also called on the public to stay at home and avoid going outside for non-essential trips.

“Hindi ibig sabihing allowed na ang paglabas ay pwede nang gumala. Kung wala gagawin ay sa bahay na lang muna. If lalabas kayo, pwede kayong makahawa or mahawa. Sayang yung 76 days na efforts natin (Being allowed doesn’t mean you can go out for leisure. If you have nothing to do, stay at home. If you go out, you may infect others. 76 days of effort would be wasted),” Eleazar said.

President Rodrigo Duterte has greenlighted the shift from modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) to general community quarantine (GCQ) beginning June 1 in Metro Manila.
