Remember cops' sacrifices in fight vs. Covid-19: Gamboa

MANILA – As the country celebrates its 122nd Independence Day, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Archie Gamboa on Friday urged the public to remember the sacrifices of law enforcers in containing the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Gamboa's message, which was read by PNP deputy chief for administration Lt. Gen. Camilo Cascolan, said the country's police force has shown its resolve and courage as front-liners and guardians of security and peace, in helping the government handle the pandemic.

"Sila ang matatawag nating mga makabagong bayani sa bagong panahon(They are our modern-day heroes during this crisis)," the PNP chief's message said.

He also urged the public to remember and honor the sacrifices made by the men and women in police uniform, who put their lives on the line.

"Bigyan natin sila ng pagkilala, pasasalamat, at pagpupugay(Let us recognize, thank, and salute them for their sacrifices)," Gamboa said.

And despite the unprecedented challenges presented by the Covid-19 pandemic, he said all PNP operatives remain committed to performing their duties as front-liners and as law enforcers.

As of Thursday, five PNP personnel have already died of the Covid-19. (PNA)
