MANILA, Philippines – Victoria Court owner Atticus King has clarified that some branches of the motel chain will remain operational.
Atticus said, while he and sister Angelina Mead King share the Victoria Court brand, they each have completely different management groups.
“Our solutions to the ongoing situations are completely different and unrelated,” he said.
He added that his group decided to retrench some employees and continue the operation of the branches he owns with a minimal number of workers.
The branches under Atticus King are currently housing medical frontliners, overseas filipino workers (OFWs) who are under 14-day mandatory quarantine, and employees of some private companies.
“That’s our market now and it’s not ideal, we are not optimized for it, and we are looking forward to things reverting back to normal,” he added.
Angelina Mead King announced yesterday the closure of her motel branches as well as the retrenchment of her employees.
“Over the next few weeks, I don’t think the hotel and motel operations will be able to produce the same results as how it used to. It's time that we face the facts and be honest,” she said.
She added that she will be preparing the retirement and retrenchment packages of her employees to support them during the crisis.
“For now, I have to advise you to please look for another job to support yourself and your family during these tough times,” she added.
The Cuneta, Gil Puyat, and Malate branches that Angelina Mead King owns will be closed while the Balintawak, Hillcrest, Panorama, Las Piñas, Malabon, North Edsa, and San Fernando branches under Atticus King will remain operational.
