MANILA, Philippines – The Israeli government has donated medical supplies to help the Philippine government fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

The donation was received by first responders of the Department of National Defense (DND) on Tuesday at Villamor Airbase.

Israeli Ambassador Rafael Harpaz turned over 60,000 surgical masks, 6,000 N95 filtered face masks, 9,000 gowns, 3,000 face shields, 100,000 gloves, and 100 non-contact thermometers to Defense Secretary Maj. Gen. Delfin Lorenzana.

“This donation signifies Israel-PH strong and friendly relations,” Harpaz said.

At the turnover ceremony, the Israeli ambassador acknowledged the Philippines' support for Israel. He noted how President Manuel Quezon provided refuge to the Jews who were fleeing the Nazis in the late 1930s. He added that the Philippines also stood as one of 33 nations that recognized the State of Israel at the United Nations General Assembly on November 29, 1947.
