Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray won’t be silenced as she pleads to the government to reconsider the Anti-Terror Bill Law that was just recently approved by Congress.

For her, there will always be a better solution that can protect the country and civilian rights.

Gray voiced her take on the issue starting June 3 on her Instagram account, pointing out that there is so much happening in the world and in our country that’s causing everyone to feel overwhelmed: “But please, don’t allow that to be the reason we revert into silence and turn a blind eye. We need to stay engaged because this is where our voices count.”

As it stands, unrevised, the tough anti-terrorism legislation has been criticized by opposition and human rights groups, celebrities, and numerous sectors of Philippine society.

Catriona encouraged everyone to do research and digest relevant information to understand what’s going on, and see what might be done to rectify the law.

For instance, the draft law contains a provision on the new Anti-Terrorism Council, which would permit authorities to arrest people that they consider as ‘terrorists” without a judicial warrant of arrest.

“The anti-terrorism bill is essential to protect the country and it’s people, but we cannot pass a bill that is susceptible to potential abuse of power and human rights violations,” she posted on Twitter.

On June 6, 2020, also from her Twitter account, Catriona declared: “Holding the stance of #JunkTerrorBill DOES NOT EQUATE to being pro-terrorism. Making the stand of #JunkTerrorBill does NOT equate to supporting violence or terrorists. Nor does it imply that we ignore or condone the damage, hurt and conflict that exists.”
