Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia has revoked all vehicle passes she issued earlier to limit vehicles plying the city streets throughout the duration of the enhanced community quarantine,.
“Ang Capitol nissue og transit vehicle pass pud kay dunay nangayo diri. But nagpadala na kog memorandum kadtong na-issue nga transit vehicle pass nga indefinite nga magamit I am hereby revoking all of these transit vehicle passes,” said Garcia in her regular press conference. (The Capitol issued transit vehicle passes to those who asked for them. But I already sent a memorandum that those we earlier issued with indefinite validity date are revoked.)
The move came after it was noted that Cebu City streets are still packed with motor vehicles despite the province-wide enhanced community quarantine, which took effect last March 30. It was also noted that drivers of most vehicles passing through the city do not even have vehicle passes and quarantine passes.
Garcia had the entire province quarantined after Cebu City registered Covid-19 cases. As of April 19, Cebu City had 165 cases with 6 deaths.
Cebu City has it's own ECQ which covers only its residents. This ECQ order is separate from the one issued by the Provincial Capitol.
Under the Provincial Capitol’s ECQ, if a resident of the province is still in Cebu City when the ECQ takes effect, they will no longer be allowed entry to other parts of the province and vice versa. Cebu City has its own ECQ but only for its residents. Residents of other areas of Cebu who have to work in Cebu City must secure special passes like the vehicle pass.
Garcia said the Capitol will provide new passes but only for a day’s use.
“Katong mga naapektuhan, apply og usab kay mo-issue mi para sa usa ka adlaw ra. So we are revoling all passes with idenfinite periods, You will have to apply and we will only issue for one if we find your reason meritorious,” she said. (Those who are affected, you can apply again but the Capitol will only issue passes good for one day.)
Garcia also appealed to the PNP and military manning the checkpoints to also check the validity of the passes. / LGC
