The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is now providing digital certificates for various private sector transactions through its Philippine National Public Key Infrastructure (PNPKI) services.

The department said digital certificates ensure confidentiality, authenticity, integrity and non-repudiation of electronic transactions and documents as it adds another layer of protection to different digital transactions.

The agency also conducts vulnerability assessment and penetration testing services for its clients through its Cybersecurity Bureau.

The DICT also encourages corporations to gauge their exposure to cybersecurity risks and practices and craft appropriate policies and measures for addressing them.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) recently promoted data privacy protection in the Philippines especially in the corporate sector amid the COVID-19 health crisis. It was among the first agencies to apply the PNPKI process.

“These services will allow them to exchange private data in a secure manner, such as in issuance of notices, orders and decisions, as well as in the conduct of internal administration,” The department said.

Information and Communications Technology Secretary Gregorio B. Honasan said the department supports the SEC’s initiative in promoting better cybersecurity practices in the private sector.

“We recognize cybersecurity as a vital component of digital transformation. As we increase our usage of ICT during our transition to the new normal, it is important to ensure that our institutions whether in the public or the private sector are safe from cyber threats and risks,” Honasan said.
