Trade and Industry Secretary Ramon Lopez said the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) has allowed dining-in for restaurants in areas under general community quarantine (GCQ) including Metro Manila.
“Na-approve na ng IATF kagabi. At least, makapag-umpisa man lang yung mga trabaho, maibalik agad sa ating mga kababayang nasa restaurant lalo na itong dine-in operation,” Lopez said in a radio interview.
(The IATF approved it last night. At least, work could start, our fellow countrymen in the restaurant industry could return for dine-in operations)
The IATF said restaurants in GCQ areas can allow up to 30 percent of their capacity starting June 15.
Lopez emphasized that even limited restaurant operations would help generate income and livelihood since 70 to 80 percent of the total workforce are in dine-in services.
He added that restaurants will be allowed to operate at 50 percent capacity once Metro Manila shifts to modified general community quarantine (MGCQ).
Buffets however remain prohibited.
Lopez earlier urged restaurant owners to comply with health protocols and other guidelines which are available on their official website and Facebook page.
He said representatives from DTI, Department of Tourism and Department of Labor and Employment will conduct random visits of restaurants to check their compliance with protocols.
“We will no longer require them to undergo the accreditation process, but they are subject to random inspections,” he said.
Erring restaurant owners may face closure.
Lopez meanwhile reiterated that gym facilities, spas and massage services are not yet allowed under GCQ, but are allowed in MGCQ areas.
