Ilo-Ilo City LGBTQ Affairs office leads project to help frontliners
ILO-ILO, Philippines – The Ilo-Ilo City LGBTQ Affairs Office continues to provide food packs to frontliners in the city through its Uswag Kitchen Patrol program.
Head of Ilo-Ilo City Pride Team Gabriel Umadhay said they serve an estimated 2,000 food packs every day.
“In this way, mapadama naman natin sa kanila (we can make the frontliners feel) that we are really giving them the best service that we can at the end of providing them the essential needs that they want,” Umadhay said in an interview with PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar.
Umadhay said the project was initiated by Ilo-Ilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas.
“He tapped our office to facilitate this program and to the efforts of our team, my team members, we made sure na nadedeliver yung program niya sa (we made sure to deliver Mayor Treñas’ program to the) community,” Umadhay said.
The Ilo-Ilo Pride Team is also gathering donations from the private sector and giving it to barangays that are the most affected by COVID-19 pandemic.
The Uswag Kitchen Patrol program produced a total of 92,749 meals for frontliners from March 20 to May 15.
