Mandaue City recorded 66 new cases of COVID-19 on May 20, all from the Mandaue City Jail, bringing the total recorded cases to date to 199.
Statistics posted by the Mandaue City Public Information Office (PIO) on Facebook showed that 189 of the 199 total recorded cases are active. 173 are city jail inmates, one is a Bureau of Jail Management and Penology worker also at the jail, and 15 others are in the Mandaue community. Of the ten other patients, seven have recovered and three died.
Meanwhile, city authorities have allowed some businesses to resume operations under the extended ECQ. Businesses however must apply for a special permit to operate. The permit is free of charge.
“All Businesses must apply for a Special Permit to Operate during the Community Quarantine. This may serve as additional proof for workers and vehicles to be allowed entry into the City,” read the notice posted on the PIO’s page.
The Mandaue PIO also reported that it exceeded its goal for target testing with a 109.97% turnout. The government originally targeted 11,632 testing samples, but 12,792 came for virus testing.
