OFWs from Maldives arrive at WHAOC-WTC
Over 300 returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) arrived for quarantine at the We Heal As One Center-World Trade Center (WTC) this Sunday morning, April 26. They joined 58 other OFWs who arrived from Abu Dhabi on April 24.
Quarantine will last 14 days with medical services to be provided by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Health Service Command. Food will be provided by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
This brings the total number of current occupants of the facility to over 400. The center can accommodate 502 occupants.
The conversion of the World Trade Center into a quarantine center is part of the Philippine government response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Congestion of Covid-19 cases in hospitals prompted authorities to look for other facilities to convert into quarantine centers. These include the Philsports Arena in Pasig and Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.
The Covid situation as of Sunday April 26 in the Maldives lists 177 confirmed cases, 17 recoveries and no deaths. In the United Arab Emirates, where Abu Dhabi is located, confirmed cases number 9,813, recoveries at 1,887 and deaths at 71.
